- Over the week of October 11-17, 387,200 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, which is three times more than the previous week. Wheat exports were 320,500 tons for Egypt, Iran, Sudan and Bangladesh. Exports of barley were 66,700 tons to Iran alone.
- According to Oil World, sunflower processing in the EU will reach a record 9 million tons in 2021/22 and the total sunseed production is projected at 10.5 million tons (8.9 in 2020/21). The sunseed production in Romania is expected to reach 2.96 million tons (+43%), 1.9 million tons in France (+18%), 2.01 million tons in Bulgaria (+16%) and 1.8 million tons in Hungary (+8%). In 2021/22, the import of sunseed in the EU will decrease to the lowest level for the last 3 years (0.62 million tons). Sunseed exports are expeted to increase to the highest level for the last 8 years (0.75 million tons or +14%).
- According to Refinitiv, 695,400 tonnes of soft wheat (834,000 in August) were exported from France (outside the EU) in September. The largest customers were China with 185,200 tons and Algeria with 174,000 tons. Exports of barley reached 372,600 tons (909,900), including 225,500 tons of feed barley for China and another 105,300 tons of malted barley for China. The total export of grain during the month reached 1.31 million tons, which is the lowest level since 2015/16.
- On Friday, commodity funds in Chicago were net buyers of 7,500 contracts of corn, 6,000 contracts of soybeans and 6,500 contracts of wheat.
- According to a forecast by the FAS USDA, soybean areas in Argentina will decrease to 16.5 million hectares in 2021/22, which is 0.5 million hectares less than the June estimate. The soybean production is estimated at 49.7 million tons (-2.3). Farmers' decisions are influenced by the new export taxes - 33% for soybeans and 12% for corn and wheat.
- In August, 151,800 tons of canola were exported from Australia, which is 39% more than in July (109,500 tons; 1,600 tons in August 2020). The largest customers were Japan with 85,800 tons (39,400), UAE with 45,000 tons (51,200) and Nepal with 15,400 tons (13,900).
- Pakistan has announced a tender for the purchase of 90,000 tons of wheat of any origin and delivery in January 2022.
- Egypt has announced a tender for the purchase of 30,000 tons of soyoil and 10,000 tons of sunseed oil with delivery within December 5-25.
