Grain Highlights 13.09.2022

According to the MARS forecast, the corn production in Ukraine will reach 32 million tons in 2022 (-24% compared to 2021 and -5% compared to the average five-year level).

- According to the MARS forecast, the sunseed production in Ukraine in 2022 will reach 13.9 million tons (-15% and -2%).

- The Ministry of Agriculture of France has lowered its forecast for the 2022/23 corn production in the country by 1.1 million tons to 11.3 million tons (-3.9 compared to 2021/22). The soft wheat production is projected to reach 34.1 million tons (+0.2 and 35.4), durum wheat production is expected at 1.4 million tons (1.4 and 1.6), barley production is projected at 11.4 million tons (11.5 in 2021/22), rapeseed production is estimated at 4.5 million tons ( 3.3) and sunseed production will reach 1.9 million tons (1.9).

- In July, wheat imports into Great Britain reached 127,900 tons (274,800 a year earlier). The largest suppliers were France with 52,700 tons and Canada with 34,800 tons. The import of corn was 206,300 tons (119,800), including 66,400 tons from the Netherlands and 51,500 tons from Canada.

- In Kazakhstan, 69.8% of the areas sown with cereals were harvested, and 13.5 million tons of grain were harvested at an average yield of 1.2 tons/hectare (0.89 a year earlier).

- According to USDA data, as of 09/11/2022, 5% of corn areas in the United States have been harvested (3% a year earlier and 4% above the five-year average). The corn production will reach 354.2 million tons (-8% and -5%). 85% of the spring wheat areas were harvested (95% and 89%). The 2023/24 field wheat crop has been sown on 11% of the planned areas (+8% for the week and 10% a year earlier).

- Yesterday, Chicago commodity funds were net buyers of 9,000 contracts of corn and 21,000 contracts of soybeans and net sellers of 7,000 contracts of wheat.

- Brazil prepares documentation for companies interested in exporting corn to China. In addition to corn, interests are also focused on soymeal.

- According to Anec's forecast, 3.92 million tons of soybeans will be exported from Brazil in September (-1.15 compared to August and -0.79 compared to September 2021). The export of soymeal will reach 2.05 million tons (1.69 and 1.46), and corn exports are estimated at 6.31 million tons (6.9 and 2.55).

- According to ABS data, 2.59 million tons of wheat were exported from Australia in July (2.71 in June). The largest customers were China with 687,500 tons, Indonesia with 373,400 tons, the Philippines with 303,800 tons, Taiwan with 41,800 tons, Vietnam with 40,000 tons and Thailand with 27,600 tons.

- According to data from the government of Turkey, 7 more ships loaded with grain left Ukrainian ports.
