Grain Highlights 25.10.2022

As of 24.10.2022, 3.6 million hectares of winter cereals were sown in Ukraine (76% of the forecast and 954,000 hectares for the last week), including 3.1 million hectares of wheat (79%) and 390,000 hectares of barley (58%).

- As of 20.10.2022, 148.1 million tons of grain bunker weight were collected in Russia (115.9 a year earlier), including 104.2 million tons of wheat (77.4). Harvested barley reached 24.3 million tons (18.6) and harvested corn totaled 832,500 tons (1.5 million tons) with an average yield of 5.96 tons/hectare (5.16). The harvested sunseed reached 8 million tons (12.7) with an average yield of 1.8 tons/hectare (1.62). Sowing of winter crops was carried out on 15.8 million hectares (16.5).

- MARS predicts an average corn yield in the EU in 2022/23 of 6.34 tons/hectare (6.39 in September and 7.87 on average for the last five years). The average sunseed yield is expected at 1.97 tons/hectare (2.05 and 2.34).

- According to AHDB data, wheat production in Great Britain reached 15.66 million tons in 2022/23 (+12% compared to 2021/22). During the season, wheat imports are projected at 1.23 million tons, and wheat export are estimated at 2.01 million tons (+100%). Consumption in the country is expected to grow to 15.22 million tons.

- Yesterday, Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 2,500 contracts of corn, 9,000 contracts of soybeans and 4,000 contracts of wheat.

- According to data from AgRural, 34% of the planned soybean areas for the 2022/23 season have been sown in Brazil (24% a week earlier and 38% a year earlier).

- In September, soybean processing in Argentina reached 2.87 million tons (3.15 in August and -22% compared to September 2021). Since the beginning of the year, soybean processing totaled 29.60 million tons.

- Saudi Arabia has purchased 566,000 tons of milling wheat at a price of 384.75 USD/ton C&F from the EU, Black Sea countries, Australia, North and South America. Deliveries will be made over the period of 01.03 - 25.04.2023.
