Grain Highlights 20.02.2023

Over the March-June period, the export of corn from Argentina will decrease by 40% to 8.7 million tons, according to the forecast of the Grain Exchange in Rosario.

- After the introduction of export quotas from Russia during the period February 15-20, the country exported 412,000 tons of wheat (-7.4% compared to the previous year), 52,000 tons of barley (+400%), 9,300 tons of corn (-83.4%). Total grain exports reached 474,000 tons (512,000).

- During the week of February 13-18, 430,400 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, including wheat exports of 405,400 tons. 117,100 tons were delivered to Pakistan, 68,500 tons were deliverted to Sudan and 63,000 tons to Egypt. A week earlier, 194,000 tons of wheat were exported.

- During the period 07/01/2022 - 02/20/2023, 30,318 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine (42,544 a year earlier), including 3,347 million tons in February (4,074). 10,808 million tons of wheat (1,073), 1,981 million tons of barley (164,000) and 17,415 million tons of corn (2.1) were exported.

- AgRural lowered its forecast for the soybean production in Brazil by 2 million tons to 150.9 million tons. For Rio Grande de Sul, the forecast was lowered by 4.3 million tons to 16.1 million tons. The corn production is projected to reach 125.5 million tons.

- Over the March-June period, the export of corn from Argentina will decrease by 40% to 8.7 million tons, according to the forecast of the Grain Exchange in Rosario. The forecast for the corn production has been lowered once again to 42.5 million tons (55 at the beginning of the season). Corn exports are expected to reach 27.5 million tons.

- A record 883,800 tons of canola were exported from Australia in December. The second highest amount was 854,900 tons realised in March 2022. In November 2022, exports reached 761,700 tons. The biggest customers were Belgium with 241,500 tons, Germany with 183,600 tons and the Netherlands with 129,400 tons.

- The South Korean company FLC has bought 65,000 tons of feed corn from the United States or South America at a price of 337.99 USD/ton C&F + 1.5 USD/ton for unloading and delivery until 06.06.2023.

- Tunisia bought 100,000 tons of milling wheat of any origin and a price of 337.68 – 339.24 USD/ton C&F and 75,000 tons of feed barley at a price of 298 – 303.45 USD/ton C&F and deliveries in March.

- On February 22, 2023, Egypt will hold a tender for the purchase of milling wheat with delivery within April 1-15.
