Grain Highlights 10.01.2024

From the beginning of the season until January 7, 2024, the EU has exported 16.5 million tons of soft wheat (compared to 17.7 million tons the previous year).

- During the period from July to December, Russia delivered 4.281 million tons of grain to Turkey (4.903 the previous year), followed by Iran with 3.902 million tons (3.718), Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Bangladesh.

- According to data from the Agricultural Information Company (APK-Inform), sunseed oil exports from Ukraine reached 2 million tons from September to December. In December alone, exports were 672,000 tons (up by 25% compared to November). Rapeseed oil exports during this period were 356,000 tons, with the EU being the largest customer with 54% and China with 31%.

- From the beginning of the season until January 7, 2024, the EU exported 16.5 million tons of soft wheat (17.7 the previous year). The largest exporters were Romania with 4.07 million tons, followed by France with 3.36 million tons, Poland with 2.34 million tons, Bulgaria with 1.67 million tons, Lithuania, and Latvia. Major customers included Morocco with 2.24 million tons, Nigeria with 1.54 million tons, Algeria with 1.37 million tons, Egypt with 1.28 million tons, and Saudi Arabia with 0.79 million tons. During this period, wheat imports into the EU reached 4.96 million tons (up by 9%), including 3.27 million tons from Ukraine.

- According to Anec's forecast, soybean exports from Brazil in January will be 1.3 million tons (down by 2.5% compared to December and up by 0.4% compared to January 2023). Soymeal exports will be 1.8 million tons (1.9 and 1.4). Corn exports are expected to be 3.3 million tons (6.6 and 4.9), and wheat exports are projected at 0.6 million tons (0.5 and 0.7). For the entire year 2023, soybean exports were 101.4 million tons (up by 30%), soymeal exports reached 22.3 million tons (up by 9%), corn exports were 55.7 million tons (up by 25%), and wheat exports reached 2.5 million tons (down by 22%).

- The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects a 2023/24 soybean production in Argentina of 50 million tons and a corn production of 55 million tons. The Rosario Grain Exchange predicts a soybean production of 50 million tons and corn production of 56 million tons.

- Tunisia is conducting a tender to purchase 50,000 tons of durum wheat and 50,000 tons of feed barley with delivery in February. For the sale of durum wheat, there are four offers with prices ranging from 446.97 to 474.69 USD/ton C&F, and for barley, there are three offers with prices ranging from 241.73 to 253.69 USD/ton C&F.

- Jordan has canceled a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of milling wheat. The next tender for the same quantity is scheduled for January 17, 2024.
