Grain Highlights 07.09.2022

As of 06.09.2022, there are 204 ships that received permission to load grain from Ukraine, including 108 in ports and 96 departed. Their total tonnage is about 2,213 million tons.

- Russian President Putin has stated that the grain corridor from Ukraine serves exports to rich countries like those of the EU, not poor ones from Africa. He wants to discuss the thesis of restricting grain exports from Ukraine with his Turkish counterpart Erdogan.

- As of September 7, 2022, almost 125 million tons of grain have been harvested in Russia, with 75% of the areas harvested.

- In 2021/22, a record 1.63 million tons of sunseed were exported from Ukraine, which is due to the difficult export of sunseed oil. According to the forecast of APC - Inform, the export of sunseed will reach 1.1 - 1.2 million tons in 2022/23.

- In the USA, the sowing campaign of winter wheat has started. As of 04.09.2022, 3% of the planned areas have been sown. Spring wheat has been harvested on 71% of the areas. 57% of soybean crops and 54% of corn crops are in good and excellent condition.

- The Government of Argentina has raised domestic biodiesel prices to 1,566 USD/ton (220,000 pesos ton) against the previous price of 198,100 pesos/ton.

- According to data from the Customs Service of China, 7.17 million tons of soybeans were imported into the country in August (9.49 in August 2021). From the middle of April to the beginning of September, the margin of soybean processors in China was negative, which greatly reduced their activity. Over the January-August period, soybean supplies in China totaled 61.33 million tons (-8.6%).

- In 2022/23, wheat imports into Thailand will reach 2.9 million tons, which is 23% more than 2021/22. Growth will be due to higher livestock numbers.

- Egypt's state-owned company GASC has bought 27,000 tons of sunseed oil at 1,300 USD/ton C&F and delivery in November. Initially, the tender called for 30,000 tons of soyoil and 10,000 tons of sunseed oil.

- In August, the decline of the Baltic bulk cargo index continued from 1,872 points to 965 points.
