For the period from February 15 to June 30, 2024, the export quota for grain crops from Russia will be 10.6 million tons, almost entirely allocated for wheat. There will be no quotas for the export of barley and corn. During the same period in 2023, the quota was initially set at 24 million tons and later increased to 29 million tons.
Between December 25, 2024, and January 12, 2025, the export tax on Russian wheat will be 4,738.7 rubles/ton (compared to 4,135.5 a week earlier). The export tax on barley will be at 2,781.8 rubles/ton (2,185.3), and the export tax on corn will be at at 4,804.8 rubles/ton (4,393.3).
As of December 19, 2024, 96.8% of the sunseed crop in Russia has been harvested, covering a total area of 10.94 million hectares. The average yield is 1.69 tons/hectare (down by 0.1 compared to 2023).
From July 1 to December 20, 2024, Ukraine exported 20.317 million tons of grain (16.013 million tons in the same period last year), including 1.942 million tons in December (compared to 2.917 million tons last year). Wheat exports amounted to 9.424 million tons (6.723), barley exports reached 1.95 million tons (0.946), and corn exports were 8.623 million tons (8.206).
In 2024, Ukraine's total oilseed production is estimated at 21.7 million tons (-6% compared to 2023, which was 23.1 million tons), according to Ukroliyaprom. The soybean production is projected at 6.1 million tons (+28%, previously 4.8), sunseed production is expected at 12 million tons (-14%, previously 13.9), and rapeseed production is estimated at 3.6 million tons (4.4).
Coceral forecasts a 2025 soft wheat production in the EU and the UK of 140.4 million tons (125.5 in 2024). The rapeseed production is expected to be 20.3 million tons (+2). A normal production of oilseeds in Romania and Bulgaria and grains in Germany and France is anticipated. Experts predict an increase in barley productions at 59.7 million tons (57.3) and corn productions at 61.9 million tons (60.2). Strategie Grains forecasts an EU rapeseed harvest of 18.7 million tons (+12%) and sunflower at 10.5 million tons (-25%).
FAS USDA estimates Bulgaria's 2024 sunseed, rapeseed, and soybean production at 1.7 million tons (compared to 2 million tons the previous year). The rapeseed production is 175,000 tons (-15%), and sunseed production is forecasted at 1.5 million tons (-15%).
The European Commission has downgraded its forecast for the EU's soft wheat production to 111.9 million tons (previously 112.3, down 10.6% from 2023/24). This is the lowest level since 2012/13. Soft wheat exports are projected to reach 25 million tons (compared to 25 and 35.3 in previous periods). The corn production is 59.5 million tons (59.6, down 3%), barley production is expected at 49.4 million tons (-0.4, up 5%), rapeseed production is forecasted at 16.9 million tons (17.2, down 14%), and sunseed production at 8 million tons (8.1, down 18%).
For 2024/25, Indonesia's corn-planted areas will be 3.6 million hectares (-5.2% from the previous estimate). Farmers are opting to grow rice instead of corn. The production will reach 12.8 million tons (-3.03%, down from 13.2 in 2023). At the end of October, Indonesian feed mills held 1.2 million tons of corn (compared to 0.718). A reduction in feed production has influenced corn stocks, which are increasing.
On December 19, 2024, Tunisia purchased 100,000 tons of soft wheat at prices starting from USD 255.29/ton C&F and above. The prices for durum wheat ranged between 339.49 and 340.69 USD/ton C&F. Deliveries are scheduled for the period from January 15 to February 25, 2025.
