Grain Highlights 03.03.2022

Turkey has received 19 proposals for the supply of wheat each for 25,000 tons at prices within C&F 439 - 517 USD/ton and delivery within March - April.

- According to government data, grain stocks in Ukraine are sufficient to meet domestic consumption in the next 12 months. The required grain stocks are 19 million tons, including wheat stocks of 7 million tons.

- On March 2, 2022, the export prices of French wheat exceeded 400 USD/ton for the first time since 2008. The average price for FCW A2 wheat in the port of Rouen is 410.08 USD/ton FOB, which is 23.61 USD/ton more than 01.03.2022. In the port of La Palis, the FOB price is 413.63 USD/ton (+23.59).

- On Tuesday, commodity funds in Chicago were net buyers of 25,000 contracts of corn, 20,000 contracts of soybeans and 18,500 contracts of wheat. On Wednesday, commodity funds in Chicago were net buyers of 17,500 contracts of wheat and net sellers of 4,000 contracts of corn and 12,000 contracts of soybeans.

- Turkey has received 19 proposals for the supply of wheat each for 25,000 tons at prices within C&F 439 - 517 USD/ton and delivery within March - April. 285,000 tons of wheat with 12.5 - 13.5% protein were purchased, compared to the planned 435,000 tons. The plans were not realized due to high prices. Deliveries will be made within the period of 10.03 - 08.04.2022. Deliveries from Russia and Ukraine have been suspended.

- According to preliminary data from traders, Algeria has bought 250,000 tons of durum, and the price is within 625 - 630 USD/ton and delivery in April. In addition, Tunisia bought 100,000 tons of durum at a price of 634.89 USD/ton C&F, according to traders.

- The authorities in Egypt have confirmed that Russia and Ukraine continue to implement the agreements on the supply of wheat to the country. A Russian ship with wheat is on its way to Egypt, and Russian authorities have assured Egyptians that a Ukrainian ship with wheat will be allowed to travel to the North African country.

- The Egyptian government has sent an inquiry to the authorities in Kazakhstan regarding the purchase of 500,000 tons of wheat (delivery parameters, grain quality, prices). At the same time, the Russian authorities have expressed that they are against such deals that will use the country's infrastructure.

- Yemen's wheat stocks are sufficient to meet domestic consumption for the next 4 months. The country imports 3.6 million tons of wheat annually.

- Jordan has canceled a tender for the purchase of 120,000 tons of feed barley of any origin. The next tender is scheduled for February 15, 2022.

- Jordan's wheat stocks reach 1.39 million tons, which is enough to meet domestic consumption over the next 15 months. Stocks of barley and wheat are sufficient enough for 11 months.

- In February, imports of sunseed oil in India reached 140,000 tons (307,680 in January). There is also a decline in imports of palm oil by 15% due to high prices. Strong imports are expected over March - April, but where will India buy the needed quantities from and at what prices remain unknown.
