Grain Highlights 06.03.2023

According to forecasts of Russian analysts, the wheat production in Russia will reach 80-86 million tons in 2023 , barley production will be around 20 million tons and corn production will be within 14-15 million tons. The total grain production is projected at 125-131.5 million tons.

- In February 2023, 1,589 million tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, including wheat exports of 1.513 million tons and barley exports of 76,000 tons. 521,000 tons of wheat were sent to Egypt, 216,000 tons to Pakistan, 141,000 tons to Saudi Arabia, and all barley to Turkey. In February 2022, the export of wheat was 1.048 million tons, and barley exports reached 50,000 tons.

- From the beginning of the season to 06.03.2023, the export of cereals from Ukraine reached 32,938 million tons (44,849 a year earlier), including 641,000 tons in March (1,344). 11.43 million tons of wheat (18,399), 2,089 million tons of barley (5,641) and 19,112 million tons of corn (20,348) were exported.

- According to AgRural data, soybean exports from Brazil reached 6 million tons over the period of January - February (-31% compared to 2022). As of 02/28/2023, farmers have sold 45 million tons of the 2022/23 soybean crop (61), which is 30% of the expected production and the lowest level since 2005/06.

- According to CNGOIC data, in the week ending on 27/02/2023, soybean processing in China was 1.7 million tons (-11% compared to the previous week and +4% compared to last year). Soybean stocks were 3.7 million tons (-30% and +20%), soymeal stocks reached 630,000 tons (+2% and +80%) and soyoil imports were 650,000 tons (-4% and +-15%).

- According to Sunvin Group's forecast, the import of vegetable oils in India will reach 15 million tons in 2022/23 (+1.2 compared to 2021/22), including palm oil imports of 8.8 million tons (+0.5), soyoil imports of 3.8 million tons (-0.2) and sunseed oil imports of 2.5 million tons (+0.6).

- In 2023, the wheat production in Iran will be 13 million tons (+2.9 compared to 2022), according to IRNA's forecast.
