Grain Highlights 31.10.2023

During the period of October 1 to October 30, grain exports from Russia amounted to 5.35 million tons (-15% compared to October 2022), including 4.753 million tons of wheat (-15%), 299,500 tons of corn, and 270,000 tons of barley.

During the period of January to September, sunseed oil production in Russia reached 6.9 million tons, which is +12% more than the previous year, including 4.9 million tons of unrefined oil and 1.9 million tons of refined oil.

As of October 29, 2023, the harvesting campaign of corn in the United States has been completed on 71% of the areas (74% compared to the previous year and 66% on average for the last 5 years), and for soybeans, it has been completed at 85% (87% and 78%). The sowing of winter wheat for the 2024/25 harvest has been completed on 84% of the planned areas (86% and 85%).

By October 31, 2023, Ukraine has sown winter grain crops on 4.211 million hectares, including 3.733 million hectares of winter wheat, 403,000 hectares of barley, and 76,000 hectares of rye. During the past week, an additional 362,000 hectares were sown. Winter rapeseed has been sown on 1.142 million hectares.

In 2022/23, wheat exports from Kazakhstan reached a record 7.975 million tons (compared to 5.748 in 2021/22 and 5.907 in 2020/21). The biggest customers have been Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.

According to AgRural data as of October 26, 2023, 40% of the planned soybean areas in Brazil have been sown (+10% for the week and 46% compared to the previous year). The first corn crop has been sown on 53% of the planned areas (46% and 56%).

According to predictions from traders in Singapore, wheat imports into China in 2023 will reach a record 12 million tons (compared to the current record of 9.96 million tons set in 2022). It is expected that purchases will continue at a strong pace in 2024.

According to market operators' data, Bangladesh has purchased 50,000 tons of soft wheat from Russia at a price of 294.95 USD/ton C&F.

Today, Tunisia is conducting a tender to purchase 100,000 tons of soft wheat and 72,000 tons of barley with delivery from November 10 to December 20, 2023.
