The differences are significant—both countries now have a combined 19.2 million tons left for export, compared to 36.93 million tons a year ago.

Between July 1, 2024, and January 15, 2025, Ukraine exported 23.616 million tons of grain (up from 20.563 million a year earlier), including 1.388 million tons in January (down from 2.097 million). A vessel carrying 23,700 tons of white corn is currently being unloaded at the port of Durban, South Africa. This is the first such shipment since November 2017, driven by a weak production and strong export demand from Zimbabwe. In November, the South African Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) assessed the country’s white corn production at 6 million tons (-29%), while the yellow corn production was estimated at 6.7 million tons (-15%).
