Grain Highlights 24.03.2022

According to the latest forecast of the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, the corn production in Argentina will reach 49 million tons in 2022, which is 6 million tons less than in 2021. The corn production estimate was 51 million tons in February.

- Over the period January - February, Russian oil plants produced 378,600 tons of refined sunseed oil, which is 23% more than the previous year. Crude oil production reached 1.002 million tons.

- The British authorities are abolishing the import tax on corn from the United States, which has been 25%. This will come into force on 01.06.2022.

- HIS Markit lowers its forecast for the corn areas in the United States in 2022 by 70,000 acres to 91.4 million acres. Soybean areas estimate was increased by 775,000 acres to 88.6 million acres. Wheat areas will be 47.5 million acres (-690,000 acres compared to the previous estimate and +764,000 acres compared to 2021).

- Yesterday, commodity funds in Chicago were net sellers of 5,000 wheat contracts and net buyers of 10,000 soybean contracts and 3,500 corn contracts.

- At the end of February, large areas of the Canadian prairies are experiencing extreme drought. The country is very likely to face a drought similar to that in 2021 and 2022. World markets expect Canada's wheat production to recover due to a number of other factors, but this may not be the case.
