Grain Highlights 22.08.2022

The Government of India states that the country's wheat stocks are sufficient to meet domestic demand and imports will not be necessary.

- Over the first three weeks of August, 854,000 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, including 638,000 tons of wheat, 15,000 tons of barley and 15,000 tons of peas. A year earlier, the export was 1,034 million tons, including 916,000 tons of wheat and 119,000 tons of barley.

- As of August 19, 2022, 23.4 million tons of grain (+2.6 for the week) were harvested in Ukraine from 6.1 million hectares (55% against 49% a week earlier). 17.4 million tons of wheat, 5.3 million tons of barley, 243,700 tons of peas were harvested. 3.1 million tons of winter rapeseed were harvested from 1.08 million hectares.

- According to FranceAgriMer data, as of 15/08/2022, 50% of corn crops in France were in good and excellent condition (-3% for the week and 91% a year earlier). The indicator is the lowest for the last 10 years.

- According to data from Statistics Canada, from the beginning of 2022/23 (August 1 – 14), 759,900 tons of grain and oil crops were exported from Canada (1.27 million tons a year earlier). Exports were 533,300 tons of wheat (-33%), 69,400 tons of durum wheat (-70%), 11,300 tons of canola (-94%).

- According to Turkish government data, 721,449 tons of grain have been exported from Ukraine since the beginning of August.

- Egypt's wheat stocks are sufficient to meet domestic demand for the next 7.2 months. Stocks of vegetable oils are sufficient for the next 5.3 months, and those of rice will be sufficient for the next 3.2 months.

- The Government of India states that the country's wheat stocks are sufficient to meet domestic demand and imports will not be necessary. In this season, the authorities bought 18.8 million tons of wheat from local farmers, which is 57% less than the previous year. Local traders say that imports will be necessary to lower the domestic prices.
