Grain Highlights 14.12.2022

Wheat stocks in the state warehouses of India at the beginning of December reached the lowest level for the last 6 years – 19 million tons (37.85 a year earlier).

- According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the grain production in the country will reach 159 million tons of bunker weight or 150 million tons net in 2022. For 2023, the production is projected within 125-127 million tons, including wheat production of 85-85 million tons.

- From the beginning of the season up to 14.12.2022, the export of grain from Ukraine reached 19,665 million tons (28,705 a year earlier), including 1,783 million tons in December (2,609). Wheat exports reached 7.298 million tons (528,000 in December), barley exports totalled 1.527 million tons (60,000) and corn exports were 10.761 million tons (1.188).

- In the week of December 5-11, the export of soft wheat from the EU reached 242,800 tons (472,200 a week earlier), including 65,500 tons from France, 62,700 tons from Poland and 30,500 tons from Lithuania. The biggest customers during the season were Morocco with a share of 13.7% of exports or 2.1 million tons, Algeria with 13.4% or 2 million tons, Egypt with 1.6 million tons, Nigeria with 1.1 million tons and Saudi Arabia with 851,000 tons.

- During the first 24 weeks of the current season, 2.8 million tons of barley were exported from the EU (4.7 in 2021/22 and 3.6 in 2020/21). The largest exporters were France with 1.1 million tons, Romania with 0.8 million tons and Germany with 0.7 million tons. The biggest customers are Saudi Arabia with 1 million tons, China with 0.4 million tons, Iran with 0.3 million tons, Jordan with 0.3 million tons and Tunisia with 0.2 million tons.

- Yesterday, Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 1,000 wheat and 1,000 corn contracts and net buyers of 7,000 soybean contracts.

- According to an estimate by Oil World, over the period of November - December, the import of rapeseed in China will reach 1.2 million tons (0.4 a year earlier). In the third quarter, imports were at their lowest level for the last 10 years at 0.2 million tons. Over the months of November - December, deliveries from Canada were 0.57 million tons (highest for the last 4 years).

- In November, 1.55 million tons of vegetable oils were delivered to India, which is 11% more than in October, according to SEA data. The import of palm oil was 1.14 million tons (+29%), sunseed oil imports were 0.16 million tons (+9%), and soyoil imports reached 0.23 million tons (-31%).

- Wheat stocks in the state warehouses of India at the beginning of December reached the lowest level for the last 6 years – 19 million tons (37.85 a year earlier). The stocks were lower in 2016 – 16.5 million tons. The areas with new wheat crop are 25.6 million hectares (+25.4% compared to the previous season), and the harvesting campaign starts in March.

- The Philippines has bought 119,000 tons of feed wheat from Australia at USD 330 – 335/ton C&F and delivery within March – April 2023.
