Grain Highlights 11.04.2023

According to USDA data, as of 04/09/2023, 27% of the winter wheat crops in the US are in good to excellent condition (28% a week earlier and 32% a year earlier), which is the lowest level since 1996.

- As of April 11, 2023, 2.2 million hectares were sown with spring crops in Russia, which is above the level of last year.

- According to Ukroliyaprom's forecast, sunseed oil production in Ukraine will grow to 5 million tons in 2023/24 (+11% compared to 2022/23). Sunseed exports will be 4.7 million tons (+11%).

In Kansas, 13% of crops are in good and excellent condition, and the state produces 17% of the nation's total wheat production. Spring wheat was sown on 1% of the planned areas, and corn has been sown on 3% of the planned areas.

- Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 2,500 soybean contracts and net buyers of 7,000 corn and 1,500 wheat contracts yesterday.

- In January, 110,000 tons of rapeseed oil were used in the United States for biodiesel production (77,000 in December and 81,000 in January 2022) according to data from Oil World, as well as 427,000 tons of soyoil (401,000 and 359,000). During the month, the consumption of oil for the production of biodiesel reached 1 million tons (+59,000 and 789,000).

- In 2022/23, the wheat production in Argentina was 12.9 million tons (22.1 in 2021/22), and the export was 6.5 million tons. The protein content is very low - on average 9 - 9.5% compared to a usual level of 11%. The wheat production in Brazil will be 10.4 million tons.

- According to data from the government grain agency of Morocco, ONICL, in April, the subsidy for the import of Black Sea wheat will be almost the same as for production of other origins. The subsidy for wheat from Russia and Ukraine will be 69.2 USD/ton, and for other suppliers - 70.2 USD/ton.

- Algeria has announced a tender for the import of at least 50,000 tons of durum milling wheat of any origin and delivery within May-June.
